Sutton host the inaugural GDST Biennale and win three Silver and a Gold!
Sutton High School hosted the inaugural GDST Biennale at the prestigeous Dulwich Picture Gallery on the 30th June.
It was a fabulous day that included a Watercolour Workshop and a tour of the Permanent Collection for art staff and the award-winning students. 14 GDST schools entered the Awards, travelling from as far as Cardiff to attend the ceremony and receive their awards from Beth Dawson. The celebrations were held in the Linbury Room where the winners were toasted with mouthwatering mocktails and delicious cakes, amongst an expertly curated exhibition of the 38 prize-winning pieces. What a superb way for our schools to come together and share the amazing creative work of all our young artists!
Sutton won three Silver Awards! Congratulations to Georgia for her superb abstract photography, Florence for her fantastic sculpture and Emily for her wonderfully elaborate mask. Entries were judged by the BP Portrait Prize winning artist James Hague and the celebrated watercolour painter and print-maker Violeta Bravo.
A special mention and congratulations to Mrs Cartwright for beating off stiff competition to win the coveted Teachers Award!

Josie KO - Got a First at Glasgow!
Click here to see the work that SHS Alumni, Josieko, produced at Glasgow. Wow!
Bringing together a kitsch DIY aesthetic full of colour and humour with dark gothic undertones, my work playfully presents narratives which speaks towards the Black British experience in a white dominated environment.

Night Lives, by Ella Sheffield
This is our final year group project at university. Night Lives is a poetic documentary painting a portrait of our generation, through a take on the nightclub culture in England. We are closely looking at notions of collective identities, performance and truth. Following the structure of a night-out and the overarching themes and emotions that come out through it, our creative investigation hopes to explore how the microcosm of a nightclub works as an excessive reflection of society and the ways we choose to live.
